Allison Blanchard, an outstanding graduate at Fort Collins High School, is known for her easy smile, relaxed demeanor and a positive outlook on life, according to her counselor, Mark Cummings.

A talented musician, Allison plays clarinet in marching, pep and symphonic band as well as in symphonic orchestra.  Active in National Honor Society and church, Allison also finds time to give piano lessons to others.

Musical talent and versatility are not the only things that make Allison stand out in her class of 369 students---she was recently named FCHS’s 2010 Valedictorian, having earned a cumulative grade point average of 4.2.  Although she is a topnotch student, Cummings points out that she did not earn her excellent grades because she took easy classes.

“Allison has taken our most rigorous college preparatory course of study throughout high school, including 11 advanced placement courses in various disciplines,” Cummings said.  “Her outstanding ACT composite score of 35 adds to her scholastic prestige.”

After graduation, Allison plans to attend Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho, and major in elementary education. She said her experience at FCHS prepared her to go on to bigger things.

“I came from a small school,” Allison said.  When I walked into to FCHS it seemed gigantic to me, but in the end it gave me a bigger view of the world and a greater appreciation of different kinds of people.”
