PSD Announces Boundary ChangesElementary Boundary Changes Approved for 2011-12 School Year
On June 8, Poudre School District announced changes to elementary boundaries, which will go into effect fall 2011. The changes will correct non-contiguous boundaries/attendance areas, better balance enrollment, and to the degree possible align elementary and middle school feeder systems, primarily in the northern area of PSD.
The decision to change boundaries follows an extensive review process by the Elementary Boundary Steering Committee. The committee’s recommendation was recently reviewed and approved by Dr. Wilson and the PSD Cabinet.
Boundary changes affect students living in some of the attendance areas of the following elementary schools: Bauder, Bennett, Cache La Poudre, Dunn, Eyestone, Irish, Laurel, Linton, Moore, O’Dea, Olander, Putnam, Rice, Riffenburgh, Shepardson, Tavelli and Timnath. The approved recommendation also includes the move of one attendance area from Timnath to Bacon, but does not affect any current students. It also includes the move of an attendance area from Linton to Zach, and from Shepardson to Zach, affecting the current attendance area of two families. View the 2011-12 boundary map .
A total of 1,052 elementary students will be impacted by the boundary changes, which take effect for the 2011-12 school year. A summary of elementary boundary area changes includes:

The elementary boundary changes are a result of correcting non-contiguous (or non-adjacent) boundaries before discussing consolidating/closing schools. In the upcoming year, PSD will closely examine neighborhoods and school communities to determine where school consolidations will improve the quality of instruction for students. If any school closures/consolidations are recommended, the Elementary Boundary Steering Committee will reconvene and utilize adopted boundaries to develop boundary modifications prior to 2011-12 implementation of boundary changes.
The Elementary Boundary Steering Committee, which began meeting in December 2009, developed the boundary recommendation after evaluating several scenarios and hearing feedback from public input meetings and related feedback forms, other applicable committee/group recommendations, feedback and reports as well as the Elementary Boundary Review Committee which was made up of an administrator and parent representative from each school in the District.
More information about the approved changes and process, including the Elementary Boundary Steering Committee Recommendation report, can be reviewed on the Elementary Boundary Web page, under District Updates on the PSD website.
