Neighborhood Clean Up

Werner Neighborhood Clean Up a Great Success

Over 50 kids and their parents/ grandparents including 25 BASE Campers attended the Werner Neighborhood Clean-Up organized by the Community Service committee on April 29th.  We started with an inspiring presentation from Susan Schafer and Catherine Dillon who are Education Coordinators from the Fort Collins Natural Areas Office.  They talked about the importance of Reducing, Recycling and Reusing and showed us a bird’s nest made entirely from fishing line.  Susan and Catherine kindly provided gloves and trash bags as well as a reusable tote and some wildflower seeds for each kid to take home.  After the presentation we spread out over several different areas with Den 9 Cub Scouts working in the Stone Creek Natural Area to the south of Fossil Creek Parkway and BASE Camp cleaning up in the Fossil Creek Meadows.  Several families worked in the Two Creeks Natural Area and in Huntington Hills Natural Area. Our BASE Camp kids were lucky enough to see a bald eagle fly overhead and found some interesting trash including a fishing net and some balls that had escaped from Werner!  They also enjoyed exploring around the creek.

Thanks to Wendy Studinski from the Huntington Hills HOA Natural Areas Committee who helped coordinate this event, Ted Manahan who shared his beekeeping expertise with the group that worked up on Stone Creek Natural Area and to Susan Schafer and Catherine Dillon from Fort Collins Natural Areas for taking the time to come to Werner to give their presentation. And of course, a big thank you to all the families who participated!!
