ECO Week Offers Outdoor Learning
Students Experience Outdoor Learning through ECO Week Activities
One of the highlights of being in sixth grade in Poudre School District is the chance to experience ECO Week. Although the schedule and variety of activities vary from school to school in September, October, and May, this hands-on outdoor experience has been a tradition in PSD for more than 30 years.
ECO (short for ecology) Week is a key component in helping students achieve standards in both science and social studies. Although the outdoor portion has never been a full week, the curriculum is often concentrated within a one-week period.
Paying for this outdoor experience is handled in different ways at different schools. Some schools do fundraisers to help defray the cost for all students. Other schools pay for students to attend by having a supportive Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) or Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and by asking parents for sponsorships.
