Volunteers will collect donations for childhood research and shave their heads as they participate in a St. Baldrick’s event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., at Poudre High School, 201 Impala Drive. The PHS IB Student Council is organizing the event to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer. David Flook, PHS IB senior, will act as host of the event in honor of his sister, Kara, a 5-year survivor of Neuroblastoma.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation donates the majority of its funds to the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). The COG includes more than 2,000 childhood cancer experts working at 230 leading childhood cancer insitutions. Children receiving treatment at any COG insitutition have the benefit of having access to the expertise of the entire group.
Colorado has 2 COG institutions including the Denver Children’s Hospital and Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital/CHOA in Denver. For more information, go to: http://www.stbaldricks.org/location_detail.asp?citycode=USCOFtCO6 |

Ongoing on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month |
Saturday School from 9 to 11 a.m. on the first and third Saturdays of the month at Boltz Junior High. In an effort to maintain high academic and behavioral expectations, Boltz is offering Saturday School. Students may opt to take advantage of Saturday School as a tutorial time, much like the “Homework Help” program that is offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Most subject areas have a staff representative to help kids with homework.
While some students are required to attend Saturday School, the program is open to all students. Initiated last year, Saturday School would often have between 15-50 students (many who weren’t required to attend) participating in each session. Because of the program’s success, Boltz administrators decided to continue Saturday School this year.
For more information, contact Lisa McVicker, Boltz vice principal, at 472-3700. |
