February Rotary Teachers of the Month

The following teachers are being honored by area Rotary Clubs:

The Downtown Rotary club will recognize Jasmine Faulkner, music teacher at Putnam Elementary, on February 14th

The Breakfast Rotary club will honor Anthony Garcia, science and health teacher at Boltz Junior High, on February 1.

The Foothills Rotary club will honor Cori Hixon-Cunningham, Poudre High School social studies/IB teacher, on February 6th.

Blevins Student Leadership Team raises money for Heifer International

Congratulations to the Blevins Junior High community for raising $2,791.59 for Heifer International, an organization that provides animals to needy families who live in developing countries. The Blevins’ Student Leadership Team spearheaded the fundraiser that involved a 1st period competition to see which class could raise the most money. The competition was held Jan. 15 – Feb. 1, 2007.

PSD debate students finish as top qualifiers at Student Congress National Qualifying Tournament

Congratulations to Rocky Mountain High School students Melissa Maciejewski and Sam Braun who finished as top qualifiers in the House and Senate, and Poudre High School student Nick Hobbs, who finished 2nd in the House at the Student Congress National Qualifying tournament held recently.  The 3 students beat out 80 other competitors from 15 northern district schools to capture 3 of the 5 available qualifying slots.  They will compete at the National Tournament to be held in June at Kansas. Ten of Rocky's 11 competitors qualified for the final round at the tournament, including Nikki Rosychuk who was named 1st alternate in the House.  RMHS was the only school to qualify more than one competitor; marking the 6th straight year that Rocky has taken at least one qualifying spot.   

Kinard Lego Robotics team wins state championship

Fantastic job to the Atom’s, one of Kinard Core Knowledge Junior High’s Lego robotics teams, which placed 1st out of 132 teams at the recent state Lego Robotics competition. The first place award earned the team a spot at the World Robotics Tournament, which will be held in April at Atlanta, Ga.

The following students represented Kinard at the state robotics tournament: Logan King, 6th grade; Nathan Slavik, 6th grade; Ryan Dickerson, 6th grade; William Peterson, 6th grade; Nathan Nash, 7th grade; Arun Chandra, 7th grade; Alan Nash, 7th grade; Dylan March, 7th grade; Tyler Shaw, 7th grade; and Julius Hochmuth, 8th grade.

The sponsor of the team was Robert Lewis and coaches were Richard and Marylou Nash.

 

PSD musical groups recognized at Colorado Music Educators Association

Congratulations to the following musical groups who were recently recognized by the Colorado Music Educators Association:

The following students from PSD schools were recognized during the National Scholastic Art and Writing awards.
