Odyssey of the Mind March 31Odyssey of the Mind Challenges Students to Solve Problems Creatively
More than 570 creative students from 24 schools will compete in the 20th annual Odyssey of the Mind competition on March 31 at Fossil Ridge High School, 5400 Ziegler Road. The competition, which is open to the public, will kick-off at 9 a.m. with a hat parade.
This year 84 teams, made up of five to seven students each, will compete in the problem-solving competition that challenges students to think outside the box. For the past few months, students have been learning creative thinking and problem solving techniques, as well as teamwork skills, while tackling long-term and spontaneous problems. School teams will present their solutions at the Odyssey of the Mind competition.
Teams selected which long-term problem to solve from several choices. This year’s long-term problem selection included: Tag ‘em, The Large and the Small Of It,…Around the World in 8 Minutes, Out of the Box Balsa, I’m Only Thinking of You!, and the Time Capsule. At the competition, teams will be judged on their long-term problem solution, spontaneous problem-solving skills and style.
Parents and community members serve as judges, coaches, and perform many volunteer duties the day of the tournament.
