PSD School Events Calendar – April 4 - 18, 2007

Ongoing through April 6, 2007

Tavelli Elementary is creating an anniversary cookbook featuring short memories about the school and recipes from alumni families that have had more than one generation attend the school.

Any family that has had more than one generation attend the school is encouraged to send in a short memory and recipe for the anniversary cookbook. The deadline for the information is April 6, 2007.

April 4-6, 2007

Cache La Poudre Junior High School Music Department presents the 2006-2007 Artist-in Residence Program at Rocky Mountain High School with “m-pact,” a pop-jazz vocal ensemble. The 3-day series will give Poudre School District high school and junior high choir students the opportunity to participate in clinics and workshops with the group, which has been called one of the best a cappella groups in the country.

In 2001, “m-pact,” a Los Angeles-based vocal band, was crowned Artist of the Year at the SAMIE Awards, the Pacific Northwest’s annual contemporary pop music competition. The group was voted both Best Vocal Jazz and Pop Group (2002-04) in the A Cappella Community Awards competition.

Now touring fine arts halls and jazz festivals internationally, “m-pact’ has appeared on 4 continents – Europe, southeast Asia, North Africa and across the United States and Canada, sharing the stage with superstars like Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Loggins, Lou Rawls, Isaac Hayes and Take 6.

Evening performances scheduled:

In addition to the workshops, evening performances for the public have been scheduled at the Rocky Mountain High School, located at 1300 W. Swallow Rd, Fort Collins, Colorado.

The doors for each evening performance open at 6:30 p.m.

April 4, 2007

The CLPJH Vocal Jazz Ensemble will open the performance at 7 p.m.

April 5, 2007

The RMHS “Spotlight” will open at 7 p.m.

April 6, 2007

The CLPJH Vocal Jazz Ensemble and RMHS “Spotlight” will open at 7 p.m.

Ticket information:

Tickets are now on sale for $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Checks may be made out to Rocky Mountain High School – Memo: m-pact.

Tickets may be purchased at Boomer Music, 2721 S. College Ave. (1-970-223-2424)

Boomer Music is open Monday – Friday (10a-6p) and Saturday (10a-5p) for tickets.

Webber Junior High Peer Helpers class will implement a 9 News Health Fair for Webber students from 7:45 to 2 p.m., April 9, 2007.  The Peer Helpers class will run 9 booths, as well as volunteer with all aspects of the fair throughout the day.

The fair is for students only.

One highlight of the fair, will be the creation of a “Power Wall.” This interactive activity will educate students about how tobacco targets young people. Students will sign pledges regarding tobacco usage and then place their painted handprint on a wall.

Approximately 40 different booths will be at the fair, including an ambulance, Colorado State Patrol, Fort Collins Police Department, Larimer County Suicide Resource Center, Team Fort Collins, Bike Fort Collins, Crossroads Safehouse, First Call 2-1-1, The Breathe Better Foundation Bus, Sunflower Market, CSU Cooperative Extension, Program ENERGY (CSU), Bill Walter Melanoma Research Foundation, The Front Range Dental Assisting Program, Denver Museum of Science and Nature, Western States Burn Center, The Donor Awareness Council, Pulse Athletic Club, and the SART Peers from RMHS, as well as 3 stations designed by Consumer Family Science classes, P.E., and the ASP program.

The 9th Annual Organizing Resources Around Needs Workshop (Oran Saye Memorial Workshop) will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Collins Marriott, 350 E. Horsetooth Road.

Marlo Payne Rice will be the keynote speaker. He will present “The Power of One: Healing the Wounded child.”

Other breakout sessions include the following topics and presenters:

· Advocacy (Peak Parent Center)

· Teen Depression and Suicide (Suicide Resource Center)

· Transitions (Empower Colorado)

· Families in Crisis (Melissa Frazey, PhD.)

· Social Skill Builders (Tom Linnell, EdD.)

· From Challenges to Opportunities (Michael Sandler, ADD coach)

Cost of the workshop is $60, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. This educational workshop is recommended for any parent, caretaker, or educator who wants to know more about helping children who are struggling in school, having trouble with peers or the justice system, or who have depression and/or low self-esteem.

Oran Saye was a 12-year-old boy who had ADD and took his life in 1997. His family donated money to launch the first conference in 1999 and continues to put it on yearly. The seminar is dedicated to preventing further tragedies through education, advocacy and support.
