The Association of Classified Employees (ACE) is pleased to announce seven recipients of the 2007 ACE Classified Employee of the Year awards. All award winners will be honored at an awards banquet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 at the Fort Collins Senior Center.

In addition, PSD Transportation and Custodial Services have announced winners of two special awards – the 2007 Brett Holm Outstanding Transportation Employee Award and the 2007 Don Morford Outstanding Custodial Employee Award.

Employees of the Year are selected based on their ability to:

·    Be positive role models for staff and students;

·    Identify with students and work to meet their needs;

·      Demonstrate excellence on the job;

·    Show initiative; and

·    Improve the district in innovative ways.

Winners are selected from the following groups of classified employees: Instructional School Support, Administrative School Support, Non-Instructional School Support, Support Services Complex Administrative Support, and Support Services Complex Facilities.

“These awards recognize exemplary performance by classified employees,” says Katy Montoya, ACE President. “These employees exhibit outstanding job performance, are actively involved in their schools or departments, and participate in training for improvement and career growth.”

2007 ACE Classified Employee of the Year Winners

PSD congratulates the following recipients of the 2007 ACE Classified Employee of the Year Award:

·     Jennifer Bozeman, accounting technician, operations/facilities services

            Years in PSD: 20 years

            Quote from nomination materials: “Without Jennifer’s will to do whatever is needed for the departments she works with we would be lost. In the times where we all have to do our best with the money that is allocated to our departments, her ability to come up with different forms and accounting practices has made our jobs that much more efficient…She is always looking out for us and makes all of us look good even when we make mistakes.”

·     Ann Chantler, registrar, Centennial High School

       Years in PSD: 6 years

       Quote from nomination materials: “Ann Chantler has spent many years working quietly in the Poudre School District for the benefit of staff and students alike. Although Ann is a very competent and skilled member of the classified office support team, her performance goes beyond the scope of everyday skills and duties, especially in the alternative setting at Centennial High School.”

·     Karen Cooper, head custodian, Fossil Ridge High School

       Years in PSD: 21 years

Quote from nomination materials: "Over time I have developed a positive professional relationship with Karen. The staff, students, co-workers, and the community love her as part of the Saber cat team. We are truly blessed that she is a part of our custodial department, the district and most of all the Association of Classified Employees. Karen defines what it means to be an Employee of the Year and is truly deserving of this award"

·     Kathy Diamond, office manager, Irish Elementary School

       Years in PSD: 8 years,

        Quote from nomination materials: “She is a valuable resource to the building; the “go to” person when there are questions or concerns. She goes out of her way to take care of our staff, community and parents. She also has great rapport with the students. She is a valuable member of the Irish team.”

·     Molly Kechter, special education paraprofessional, Blevins Junior High School

        Years in PSD: 5 years

Quote from nomination materials: “Molly’s job performance is outstanding! She is always at work and very reliable. She goes above and beyond the call of duty…She interacts well with students, as well as other staff members. Her title is paraprofessional, but most staff consider her a teacher.”

·     Lynda Moore, office manager, Laurel Elementary

       Years in PSD: 10 years

       Quote from nomination materials: “Lynda Moore was chosen by our staff and parents for this honor. This a tribute to her, a recognition of her exemplary service to our school community. One parent commented on her being ‘an advocate for students, parents, staff and administrators.’”

·     Wendy Vesely, paraprofessional, Kruse Elementary School

       Years in PSD: 7 years

       Quote from nomination materials: “Even though Wendy has specific grade levels that she assists, she is always willing to take on projects from other grade levels, such as last minute copying, book assembly, or being an extra set of hands during a science lesson…Wendy is able to meet the academic needs of students with grace and fluency, and minimal explanation from teachers.”

2007 Brett Holm Outstanding Transportation Award

PSD congratulates the recipient of the 2007 Brett Holm Outstanding Transportation Employee Award. The award is given in memory of a highly respected Transportation Services employee who dedicated his life to serving others and died of cancer at a young age.

·    Gordon Taylor

      Years in PSD: 6 years

Quote from nomination materials: "One of my students in particular, has a VERY difficult time maintaining self control and following the rules on the bus. Instead of becoming frustrated and impatient with this student, Gordon has been nurturing, giving, and kind. He has used behavior plans to reinforce positive behaviors and has placed older students that model appropriate behavior to sit with this student…I was amazed when Gordon took the time to come to this student's special education IEP meeting, to meet with the staff and parents to help brainstorm some solutions to keep this child on the bus. He has followed through with every plan we have made and because of his dedication, this student is not only able to ride the bus, but has developed another level of support bridging the gap between school and home."

2007 Don Morford Outstanding Custodial Award

In addition, PSD congratulates the recipient of the 2006 Don Morford Outstanding Custodial Employee Award. This award is given in memory of a long-time PSD custodian who lost his arm in a farming accident, then returned to his custodial duties and continued to perform his duties in the same outstanding manner.

·    Antonio Enriquez Jr., head custodian, Poudre High School

       Years in PSD: 7 years

       Quote from nomination materials: “Antonio exemplifies the qualities set forth by this award, including an outstanding work ethic, demonstration of excellence on the job, and the ability to identify and meet the needs of students.”
