Beattie Battle of the Books will begin October 2 and 3.  Last year was our first year to try out this fantastic reading contest.  Click on the info sheet link above for more details.

Third through sixth graders can sign up for teams of 3 or 4.  Students will read 10 books, meet weekly with a volunteer coach (teacher or parent) to discuss and participate in activities to review the books, and answer questions in  a Battle of the Books quiz bowl type competition in February.  This year our winning teams will complete with other PSD Battle of the Books teams.  All questions read, "In which book..." and the teams respond with the title and author.  There will be an opportunity to purchase our official t shirt, to share pizza lunches with your team, to win prizes, and best of all to have FUN READING!

Our Beattie Battle of the Books was fantastic!  Thirty third through fifth students gave up one lunch time per week to read books.  The teams competed on April 11 and April 18 in a quiz bowl style, answering questions about the books.  Winners received $10 gift certificates to shop for books at Reader’s Cove, 1001 E Harmony.  Thanks to our Beattie Action Team for funding the prizes and to Charles Kaine at Reader’s Cove for allowing us to purchase $180 worth of gift certificates for $120!
