Polaris Invites All to Open House

November 14, 2007

Polaris Expeditionary Learning to Host Open House Dec. 6

Parents and students are invited learn more about Polaris Expeditionary Learning School at an Informational Night at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 6 in the small auditorium at Fossil Ridge High School, 5400 Ziegler Rd.

Polaris (grades 7-12), located in one wing of FRHS, is based on the fundamental idea that students learn more by experiencing the world around them.

The Colorado state standards are utilized to design the Expeditionary Learning curriculum, along with student-teacher-parent development expectations emphasizing personal responsibility for learning. Polaris employs assessment tools such as student portfolios, Measures of Academic Progress (MAPS) testing, and presentations of learning to provide a complete picture of student development. Students at Polaris are required to take state assessments and meet district goals for achievement.

The Polaris curriculum follows the ten Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound Design Principals (www.elschools.org), which reflect the connection to related thinking about teaching, learning, and the culture of schools.

For more information, visit the Polaris website at eweb.psdschools.org/schools/polaris or call the school at 488-5840.
