Local Geography Bee Winners Advance

PSD Geography Wizards Qualify For State Geography Bee

 

Poudre School District’s young geography wizards will pit their wits against other state qualifiers at the State Geography Bee this weekend.

 

Nine PSD students in grades 5 through 8 qualified to compete at the State Geography Bee beginning at 8:30 a.m., Friday, April 3, at the University of Denver.  All are vying for a spot at the national competition in Washington D.C., May 24 and 25. PSD’s state qualifiers are among the top 100 students from Colorado.

  • Bjorn Swenson, grade 6, Beattie Elementary
  • Zaki Phelan, grade 6, Dunn IB World Elementary
  • Sameul Vuchetich, grade 7, Webber Junior High
  • Dillon Knackstedt, grade 7, Lesher IB World Junior High
  • Theodore Papenthien, grade 7, Preston Junior High
  • Liam Weiner, grade 8, Kinard Core Knowledge Junior High
  • Abigail Peterson, grade 8, Cache La Poudre Junior High
  • Nathan Brinks, grade 8, Blevins Junior High

To see an examples of a geography bee question, log on to the Bee section of National Geographic Society Web site at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/, and take the daily "GeoBee Challenge," which features questions from previous National Geographic Bees.

Each state winner will receive $100, a National Geographic globe and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the national finals and the chance to be crowned National Geographic Bee champion.
