Vision/Hearing Screening in PSDTeams of school nurses, audiologists, health technicians and volunteers will continue to conduct vision and hearing screenings in all schools throughout the district between December and January. The screening is provided according to school health guidelines in Colorado.
Vision and hearing screenings are designed to identify students who need further evaluation by a health professional. When a student does not pass the district screening, a referral is indicated, and district nurses provide parents with their child’s results along with resource information about vision services in the community.
The purpose of conducting screenings and sending referrals is to give every student the best opportunity for educational success in school. If the child needs glasses and cannot afford them, the nurses try to connect that family with financial assistance.
