Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, parents, and guardians:

Beginning the second week after Thanksgiving break, on Wednesday, December 7, all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes will begin recorder units. Through the generosity of a grant from The Kayla Foundation, recorders are being provided to all 3rd and 4th grade students and to 5th graders new to CLPE this year (last year’s 4th graders already received recorders which they will need to bring back for the recorder units). During the recorder units, all recorders must stay at school, particularly because the grants stipulate that they be used by every student during class. Recorders will be labeled and kept separate by class; they will be used only by the individual student to whom they are assigned. (We are very fortunate to have individual recorders—many schools use a class set and clean them between classes!). If your student wishes to practice at home during the recorder units, I recommend purchasing a separate practice recorder. The recorders provided by the grant will be the students’ to keep at the end of the school year; this year’s third and fourth graders will need them next year, too, so they’ll need to keep track over the summer.

Reminder: fifth graders who received a recorder through last year’s grant need to bring it to class by December 7 and keep it at school, in the music room. Fifth graders DO NOT need to bring the method books they received last year. If your student received a recorder last year but cannot find it, they will need to provide a new recorder.

Please call Melissa Flail at 488-7645 or email mflail@psdschools.org with any questions.

RiverSong Choir will meet this year on Thursday mornings from 7:45-8:45 a.m. Students may arrive beginning at 7:30 a.m., and should report to the outside door of the music room. Choir will begin Thursday, September 1, and will be open to new members until September 22. Please contact Melissa Flail with questions.
