Character

Our school-wide Character Education program was developed in order to create the most positive school climate possible at Irish and to foster integrity and character in our students. Each month we will focus on a specific character trait.

The traits we will focus on each month are:

  • September - CARING
  • October - RESPECT
  • November - CITIZENSHIP
  • December - FAIRNESS
  • January - RESPONSIBILITY
  • February - SELF-DISCIPLINE
  • March - TOLERANCE
  • April - HONESTY
  • May - COURAGE
The Irish Character Education program involves many components. On the Morning News each Monday, the school counseling team will give a small presentation related to the month's character trait. Students will participate in classroom activities and projects related to each character trait. The Irish staff will, of course, model the behaviors and skills related to being a "person with character" and will reward students for being examples of the character traits they are learning about. When students are "caught in the act" of displaying behaviors related to the month's character trait, a staff member will award them a paper symbol of the trait, which will be displayed on the center pod Character Education bulletin board. We will be working on courtesy, politeness, self-respect, and respecting others' rights. Students will earn a "Jaguar paw" this month when they demonstrate respect towards self and others.
