Mr. Joyal
Welcome to 5th grade!!
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Mr. Joyal gradually made his way across the country. He lived in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Utah before landing in Colorado. Having grown up 5 min from Rich Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, he is a die-hard Bills fan. But he will always cheer for the Broncos (unless they play the Bills).
He attended BYU in Utah. He took 2 years off from school to serve a church mission in Argentina where he learned Spanish. He graduated in 2000 and proceeded to spend a semester in Israel. Having run out of money, he moved into his parents' basement in Fort Collins and has remained here (in Fort Collins, not his mother's basement) ever since.
Kids and teaching are passions of his. He loves to learn and have fun doing it. And he loves O'Dea! What a fabulous school! He's also taught 6th and 3rd grades, but loves 5th the most!
We have so many fun things coming up this year. We grow plants and fly airplanes and study animals; we discover new continents and fight pirates and invent new technology; we tilt at windmills, forage through Meso-American jungles, and discover secret gardens; all culminating with a trip to the zoo.
Outside of school Mr. Joyal spends most of his time with his family. His wife just had a baby boy this past July. They already have an energetic 2-year old, so there is little quiet time in his life right now. He enjoys football, cycling, ultimate frisbee, and frisbee golf. He is also active in his church, including serving as the congregation's organist.
