Ms. Petros

Did you hear about Watermelon Day?

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe the first week of school is already over!  What a great week!  Friday, August 22, was especially fun because second graders celebrated Watermelon Day!  As a special treat, students had watermelon for snack.  Here are some interesting things we learned:

1.  The scientific name for watermelon is citrillus vulgaris.

2.  Our watermelon weighed in at almost 25 pounds and was 25 inches around the middle!

3.  Our watermelon had approximately 442 seeds in it.

Your child has a very special assignment this weekend.  Please help him or her illustrate one page for our watermelon book.  This book will be kept in our classroom and laminated so we can read it all year long.  Thanks in advance!

Ask your child about these other fun events:

  • Friday Fun Club
  • Self Portraits
  • P.E.
  • Name Tags
  • Mingle Mingle
  • Greenie

See you next week!

Important Dates to Remember:

August 28 - Back-to-School Night

September 1 - No school (Labor Day)
