O'Dea PTA conducted a survey to learn more about teacher's and staff's favorite things.  If you want to thank someone at O'Dea, please feel free to use this information to find just the right kind of gift.  While some of the surveys are listed on this website, others can be found in a binder in the front office at school.  If you have any questions or comments, please contact PTA at odeapta@yahoo.com

Get involved

O'Dea Parent Teacher Association is an organization working toward supporting the students, staff and programs of the O'Dea Core Knowledge Elementary.  Some of the things we support are:

·         Math-a-thon - fall fundraiser and promotion of all things good and math!

·         Spring into Health - spring fundraiser and promotion of all things good and well.

·         Back to School events - we host social events prior to school to help children and families transition from summer to school and to get everyone excited!

·          Community dinners - each semester we organize a dinner for the O'Dea Community.  Get to know your other O'Dea families at this annual event.  The fall dinner coincides with the Scholastic Book Fair and the spring dinner coincides with the Core Knowledge Fair.

·         Original Art - lead by Art Teacher Extraordinaire Mr. Cale, this program offers an opportunity for you to order your child's original art print on a consumer item (mug, mouse pad, apron...)

·         Winter Clothes Exchange - provides the O'Dea community an opportunity to drop off, pick up, or swap winter clothing for their children

·         Walking Wheeling Wednesdays - offers incentives and rewards for students who get themselves to school without an automobile.

·         Eco-Week - 5th grade experiential education outing

·         Odyssey of the Mind - spring afterschool program that teaches children creative thinking and team work

·         Earth Day Clean-up - we organized people and supplies to spruce up school grounds near Earth Day, April 22.

·         Teacher Appreciation Week - this annual spring event allows up to show our teachers how much we appreciate what they do all year.

·         Volunteer coordination - the school's Volunteer Building Coordinator is also active in PTA!  this relationship helps up ensure volunteer needs are being met (Hearing and Vision, Picture Day, classroom needs, Book Fair, Field Day)

Other things we want to work on...but we need your help!

·         More robust recycling program throughout school

·         Family directory

·         Capital improvements like more benches on school grounds, repainting bike stands, or new murals in cafeteria.

·         "Walking" school buses - walking past another O'Dea Owls house on the way to school?  Wouldn't it be cool if we coordinate parents to help get each others kids to school?  All together, now...

·         Any other parent or community initiatives.  Let us know what is important to you!

Any questions, please contact us at odeapta@yahoo.com

PTA Corner News:
Remember earlier this fall when we were celebrating a great Math-a-thon event and the new PTA sponsored school directory?  Well, those were both so successful, that PTA has enough funds to sponsor $2000.00 in Staff Mini-grants this year.  This is an opportunity for teachers and staff at O’Dea to apply for funding for special projects or supplies that they otherwise would not have.

We recently granted funding to Debbie Goodwin and Courtney Petros for a global positioning system (GPS) enabled camera.  The camera will travel to Australia with Mrs. Petros during the spring semester while she participates in a teacher exchange program.  Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Petros will work with students in downloading and uploading photos and video files.  Since it has GPS, they will be able to track the photos as she travels and teach students about GPS, geography and photo-tagging technology.  Plus, they will get better first-hand feedback from Mrs. Petros’s cool opportunity to travel in AUSTRALIA!

PTA is also proud to start a new partnership with Art Teacher Extraordinaire, Mr. Cale.  O’Dea Elementary is almost 50 year old.  To commemorate this and to spruce up our grounds, he has initiated a new project to design and build a school statue and sign.  We would love a creative, motivated parent volunteer to help us work with Mr.Cale on this.  Please contact him directly or contact PTA at odeapta@yahoo.com.

Other PTA events and activities to look for in the spring include: Spring Family Dinner, Earth Day Clean-up Day, and repainting of the playground map.

PTA will continue to meet on the second Monday of the month in the spring (except in March because that falls during Spring Break, so we’ll move it to the first Monday).  That means we will meet on: January 9, February 13, March 5, April 9, and May 14.  Please stay in touch with PTA between meetings by emailing us at odeapta@yahoo.com

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
