Science is the thread that ties curriculum together at Putnam Elementary School of Science. With the hands-on, PSD adopted, inquiry-based FOSS Program (Full Option Science System) and additional teacher created materials, students investigate science content. Science exploration reaches throughout the day as students use leveled, nonfiction text during their literacy block to learn about the world around them. The effective use of science notebooks at all grade levels is a powerful tool for improving writing skills. Putnam students use science notebooks to make predictions, plan explorations, explain new understandings, and to wonder, "What if" about the world. Science is not just another subject at Putnam Elementary School of Science, it is a way of inquiring about everyday phenomena.
