Gifted and Talented
At Rice we strive to meet the needs of every child within the bounds of our classrooms. Teachers work as grade level teams to create and implement lessons and activities that support the needs of all students including those who are high achieving or gifted.
The identification process in Poudre School District is centered on forming a “Body of Evidence” for students being considered for gifted education services.
Every grade level has a 30 minute block set aside daily for intervention and enrichment. Grade level teams work closely together to plan intervention and enrichment activities that center on students’ specific needs. While the teacher is working with a small group of students
(4-6), the remaining students read silently. Because grade level teams work together to plan the activities that meet students’ individual needs, students are often pulled from several classes to work on the enrichment activity together.
After school enrichment opportunities are also available for all students at Rice. Classes are offered five times throughout the year. Each session runs from 3:00 to 4:30 for 5 weeks. Classes are held on Tuesday and/or Thursdays.
