A Parent's Guide to Accelerated Reader
Parent access to student's AR account
Accelerated Reader (AR) is one part of our reading program. Teachers assign students a ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) according to testing at the beginning of the year (MAPS, DRA). Students then read books on their level and take a short quiz. They earn points for passing quizzes and try to reach their goal for the quarter. AR helps:
- Make essential reading practice more effective for every student.
- Personalize reading practice to each student’s current level.
- Manage all reading activities including read to, read with, and read independently.
- Assess students’ reading with four types of quizzes: Reading Practice, Vocabulary Practice, Literacy Skills, and Textbook Quizzes.
- Build a lifelong love of reading and learning.
