Riffenburgh Elementary School is a candidate school for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Riffenburgh Elementary School believes is important for our students.
 IB UPDATE
Riffenburgh is now recognized as a candidate school for the primary years program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate. This accomplishment could have only been achieved through the hard work, diligence, and commitment of the Riffenburgh staff to improving the education for all children at the school. In the next 15 months, Riffenburgh will be working with an IB Consultant who will work directly with the school to further develop the Program of Inquiry and ensure that instruction offered at Riffenburgh meets the world-class standards and practices set forth by the IB. Following a two day intensive visit by the consultant, an application for authorization will be filed with IB. Through sustained efforts, reflection, and support; Riffenburgh Elementary School will achieve its goal of being an authorized IB World School during the 2013-2014 school year.
The following steps were accomplished during the 2011-12 school year:
- Second year of teaching the IB Learner Profile to grades K-5.
- Weekly Spanish instruction for all students.
- Development of the school-wide IB Program of Inquiry.
- Three trans-disciplinary units have been taught at all grade levels.
- A half-time IB Coordinator has worked with staff to guide our implementation.
- An on-site IB training for teachers is scheduled for August 2012.
- Completed application to become a candidate IB Primary Years School.
We look forward to continuing success with our IB initiative, and see indications that Riffenburgh students are becoming more actively engaged with their learning across grade levels. More information will be provided as we move toward anticipated IB authorization during the 2013-14 school year.

THIRD GRADE TCAP RESULTS
We are pleased to announce that last year’s third grade class achieved very well on the TCAP Reading assessment completed in February. 89% of Riffenburgh third graders were proficient or advanced, an improvement over the previous year’s third grade scores, and a performance level above state and Poudre School District averages. Congratulations to our students, and thanks to the parents, teachers and staff members who have contributed their reading abilities over the years!
