Kindergarten

Riffenburgh ElementaryKim Baker - This is my 10th year teaching kindergarten and 8th year teaching at Riffenburgh. I have a Masters degree in Special Education (Moderate Needs) When I was in 4th grade, I told my parents, "I want to be a teacher when I grow up". I volunteered in Mrs. Gunstream's Kindergarten classroom at Lopez Elementary when I was a senior in high school and that is when I knew I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. I teach because I love spending my days teaching and learning from children. That's right, I learn from them. I enjoy running, biking, hiking, snowboarding and being outside in beautiful Colorado. I also enjoy being a member of the Larimer Chorale.

Riffenburgh ElementaryKasiah MacDevitt - This is my 5th year teaching kindergarten and my first year at Riffenburgh. I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful learning community! The dedication of parents and staff at this school is a great thing to see. I have my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and my passion is working with young students. I also hold a Bachelors Degree in Theatre. I enjoy bringing music, dance and drama into my classroom. I recently moved from Arizona and I love living in this incredible state. I am having so much fun hiking in the mountains, and discovering new places. I truly feel like I have found my calling in being a kindergarten teacher. Watching children grow, learn, and laugh is a priceless thing!

Riffenburgh ElementarySherry Walker - Mrs. Walker was born and raised on a grain farm in North Dakota in a small town called Berthold. Her favorite teacher was her kindergarten teacher, who just happened to be her mother. After graduating from high school she moved to Moorhead, Minnesota and did her undergraduate work at Minnesota State University of Moorhead. In 1998 she again moved and arrived in the beloved Fort Collins, CO. Here she started working as a special education teacher at Riffenburgh Elementary. In 2002 she moved schools within Poudre School District and taught 1st Grade at Cache la Poudre Elementary School. During this time she finished her Master’s Degree at Colorado State University in the Educational Leadership program. She is incredibly excited to be back at Riffenburgh and teaching kindergarten. She enjoys living in the country with her husband and 4 pets. In her time off she enjoys baking, reading, walking, and spending time with family and friends.

About our class!

Kindergarten Philosophy

We provide a developmental curriculum where active learning occurs in the context of individual   differences.  Our goal is to provide an environment that addresses the whole child. We focus our activities in the areas of language development, perceptual-motor and social-emotional skills, and academics. There is a wide range of abilities and developmental levels in any kindergarten classroom.  Our goal is to move every child forward on the exciting road of learning

Kindergarten children thrive in a warm, supportive, and stimulating environment.  Instruction is provided in whole group, small group, and individual settings.  Center time provides an opportunity for children to receive targeted instruction, and allows them to practice problem solving and cooperation skills.  It also engages children in many hands-on activities.

We consider it a privilege to welcome your child to the world of elementary school.  We want this introduction to be a positive and exciting experience.
