Ms. Bender
This is my second year of teaching elementary general music and my first year at Riffenburgh. I am still new to teaching but am really enjoying working with elementary students and sharing my knowledge of music with them. I have a bachelor's degree in music education from Colorado State University in Fort Collins. My emphasis was in instrumental music, but I have always loved to sing! I have played flute and piano for 16 years and chose music as a career because of all the amazing music teachers I have had who inspired me. I am currently working on my master's degree in music education with an emphasis in Kodaly and am excited to learn all I can about this fantastic methodology and continue to grow professionally.
Choir season is upon us! The Rockin' Roadrunners will have their first choir meeting on Wednesday, October 6th. All 4th and 5th graders are welcome to join. At this meeting, students will take home detailed information on the aspects of choir. Students who join choir can look forward to a field trip to sing at the mall and a final public performance at Riffenburgh at 6:30 PM on December 9th.
>Riffenburgh students are introduced to famous composers, such as Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, and their unforgettable works. Primary grades go to music twice a week for half an hour and intermediate grades go to music once a week for an hour. In music class, all grade levels are working with a variety of instruments, learning a number of folk songs, and experiencing music through movement.
During the course of the school year, all students will study a variety of composers. Students will learn about the backgrounds of these composers and listen to at least one of their famous compositions.
