BUS DISCIPLINE

Safety is most important! We expect all individuals to demonstrate appropriate conduct. The consequences for misbehavior are clearly outlined in the School Bus Regulations. Misbehavior may be considered a violation of the Code of Conduct. Please remember that our first goal is the safety of all students on the bus. Video cameras may be used to monitor student behavior on school vehicles transporting students to and from school or extra-curricular activities. Notices of the use of the video recording devices shall be placed in each school vehicle.

BUS PASSES

Students who live in the Rist Canyon area are provided with bus service to and from school. Your address determines your bus stop, which you may change for mornings and/or afternoons by completing a Special Instructions for Transportation form available in our school office. For a one-day change of pick-up/destination point, we will issue a bus pass; upon receipt of a note, signed and dated by the parent. Any of our students may present the parent’s note to the secretary to get a bus pass. Each student who rides the bus must follow the regulations of the district.

School bus regulations are sent home with bus students each fall. If you need an additional copy, please contact the bus driver. If Poudre School District decides to close all schools, because of unsafe weather conditions, this information will be broadcast on local radio stations starting around 6:00 a.m. A heavy snowfall, with drifting that prevents snow removal, is generally the major condition that results in school closure. Parents have the right, at any time, to determine if weather and road conditions are safe for their children to attend school.

The decision for the Mountain Schools can be independent of city schools closures. The condition of the county-maintained roads is the determining factor. If the decision is to close your Mountain School, the principal begins the unit calling chain for the staff of the individual school. This process will begin around 5:15 a.m. with the closure being reported on radio station 107.9 (the Bear) by 6:00 a.m. The Stove Prairie PTO will activate the Parent Calling Chain as a service to our rural families for the safety of our children.

On rare occasions, school may need to be closed during the school day. This decision is the most difficult to make since all parents or emergency contacts will need to be notified prior to early dismissal. To be assured that students will be getting home safely during extreme conditions, the school works closely with the county road crews, and district personnel. Individual Mountain School closings will be addressed in a timely fashion, and parents will be contacted. The determining factors in this case include the forecast, existence of extreme weather conditions, or unusual physical needs of the school building.

No child will be left unattended at school. If there is doubt about a child arriving home safely, the child will remain at school until parent contact with has been made. If we are unable to contact parents, we will contact your emergency person. Parents need to have a plan of action in the event the bus fails to arrive at the scheduled time. Students should know exactly what to do in such a situation, especially if the parents are no longer at home.

If conditions become threatening during the day, please listen to the radio. If you do not have a phone, you may need to contact a neighbor to see if your child is coming home early. If we cannot reach you, your child will be sent with/to your emergency person.

Please make sure the school has emergency contacts for your child in the event we cannot reach you.

A cellular phone at the school is used if there are power outages. The number of that phone is 218-1175. Please use this number only in extreme emergencies.
