Historical Thayer House
In 1894 Henry Thayer bought a farm from Gilbert Smith, one and a half miles south of Timnath. In 1891 Gilbert Smith built a two story frame farm house. Henry's wife and four children moved in, in 1894. He successfully farmed the land until 1906 when he and his wife retired to a house in town.

Henry's children were Homer, who married Eva Davis, Ernest, who married Roxie Love, and Mabel, who married into the Horner family. Louis H. worked the farm and tended the livestock after Henry and his wife, Sarah, moved to town.

Henry was also the vice president of the Farmer's State Bank. He and his family were active members of the Timnath Presbyterian Church for a long time. Henry Thayer died in 1927. His descendants still live in the local area today.

The farm house Gilbert Smith built still stands today. The current owners bought the house from Henry's grandson, Hilman, and have lived there for fifteen years. They have remodeled the whole house and added more rooms. They also have rewired, sheet-rocked, and added new plumbing. Most of the land surrounding the farm house is still being farmed today. The crops being grown are, pumpkins, corn and wheat.

The Thayer family owned more than one house in the area over the years. Both are still standing and are currently lived in. The one in this article is one mile south of the second one.

Rachel's Processing Page
I created this Historical house page when I was in the sixth grade as a part of a final choice class. I chose this topic in Timnath History because I live in the historical house I mentioned. I am also interested in old houses and I have lived in Timnath my whole life.

When I was researching topics I looked in the Timnath history book and I also talked to my mom who knows a little about this area. I had fun doing this project. I enjoyed reading the Timnath history book. There were so many facts included in it. My mom knew some things that I didn't find in the book. They were both great resources.

I would like to thank my mom, of course, for telling me the information I needed. I would also like to thank the Columbine Club, for all their hard work making the Timnath book which helped me so much.

The thing I liked most about this project was I got to research my own house. No one knows more about my house than me, because it's my house. Future researchers should research how Timnath Elementary was built. I could have interviewed people who had also lived in the Thayer house; if they were alive. I hope Timnath has a legacy as a town of rich history that has been passed down for generations.
