The Timnath Hotel

The Timnath Hotel still stands at the corner of Main St. and Third Avenue. It was built in 1905. In 1906 one of the employees was Katherine Dumler Ehrlich. She was a longtime Timnath resident. During a remodeling project at the hotel somebody found a memento left by a former guest at the hotel. The ticket was a two dollar show ticket, dated back to 1905. The Timnath Hotel has been the largest building in Timnath for years. The hotel has also served as a residence. Dave Elliot bought the hotel when he was 15 or 16. The hotel quit operating as a hotel before 1918. When the railroad left, the hotel lost most of its business and it became a private home. |

Dave Elliot was not the only owner of the hotel in the past century. There were in fact others. In 1909 Mrs. Ora Everitt had control of the hotel after it was first built. A year later in 1910, F.L. Duncan bought it and owned it until 1919. That year, Mrs. Mattie Morton bought the hotel and owned it for the next three years. Next, in 1922, Mrs. Gladys Miller bought the hotel until 1925. And then Mrs. Maude Huff owned it until 1929.
The hotel first became a residence in 1919 when the Morton family bought it. Then the Elliot family bought the hotel. Abram Elliot, Jr. bought the hotel in 1934. In 1955 James David Elliott, Abram's son, bought the hotel from his mother. It's been his ever since, with his wife Gerry, and his family. Dave Elliot plans to live there until he dies. |
Hotel Businesses The Timnath hotel housed other businesses besides just the hotel. It housed the Dr. W. S. Partridge Drugstore and Gift Shop in 1906. Another business in the hotel was Mr. Joyce¹s barber shop. There were also meat markets that worked out of the hotel that were owned by R. K. Huff in 1925 and Earl Miller in 1922. Later on in the history of the hotel the Elliot family had a bee keeping business there. They produced 50 tons of honey on good years. The Elliot family still owns the building.

Brandon's Processing Page I created this hotel page when I was in the sixth grade as part of a final choice class. I chose the topic because I am interested in the history of the hotel. I got part of my information from the Timnath Book. I also got some of my information from Dave Elliott (the current owner of the hotel).
Before I interviewed people I was excited to meet the people. I was a little nervous. Some pre-research I did was looking in the Timnath book. The most interesting thing I heard was that Dave Elliot has owned the hotel since 1955. The interviewing experience was fun.
Thank you to Dave Elliot and his son James Elliott. Thank you to Mrs. Durkin for helping me gather information for my paper. And thank you to Brian and Victor for helping.
What I liked most about this project was interviewing Dave Elliott. Future researchers should investigate the hotel further than I did. What I could have done differently was research much more about the hotel. How I hope to add to the legacy of the Timnath history is to get my paper on the web site.
Victor's Processing Page I created the hotel history page when I was in sixth grade as part of my final choice class. I chose this topic because I wanted to know about the history about the hotel. I gathered my information from the Timnath History book. I also gathered my information from the current hotel owner, Dave Elliot. On the day we were going to interview I was excited. I was excited before I interviewed. Yes, someone brought a letterman¹s jacket. The interviewing experience was fun. I want to thank Brandon and Brian for helping me with this project. And I would like to thank Mrs. Durkin, the Columbine Club and everybody that came to get interviewed.
Brian's Processing Page I did this page on the hotel when I was in 6th grade at Timnath Elementary as part of my final choice class. I chose this topic because it hadn't been done before and it sounded interesting. I used such resources as the Timnath History book and a personal interview from Dave Elliot. I would like to thank Dave Elliot, the Columbine Club for putting the Timnath book together, and Mrs. Durkin for helping on this project.
