Town of Timnath
By Jose Hernandez
Timnath's first settler was Ebenezer Davis, the first white man to settle there. Ebenezer Davis was a prospector who set up camp in 1859. Timnath was established in 1886 and Timnath school was established in 1869. There were lots of businesses in Timnath in its early days when it was alive. There were businesses like deli's, auto repair, and restaurants. More businesses were hotels, meat lockers, and later railroads. In 1864 the town of Timnath decided to create a cemetery to bury their loved ones. In the town Timnath had two banks, two grain elevators, a lumber yard, two grocery stores, a pickle plant, and a blacksmith shop. There was also a barber shop, two gas stations at one point, a restaurant, and one lady even made potato chips behind the church. The barber's name was Mr. Samson. There are later improved businesses but before these there were dairy farms, and food farms. When the school was on fire there were hardly any ways to put it out so afterwards they built a reservoir by the cemetery and the Timnath T.
I know people that were actually in the school when it was on fire. No one was hurt but, everything was lost. They watched the fire die down and it finally went out but you still could hear the sizzling of the fire. A lot of parents rushed to see if their children were safe. There was actually a fire hydrant. They hooked up a water hose to the hydrant and tried to put it out but there was not enough water pressure. When the fire was first noticed by a fourth grade boy the teacher tried to pull the alarm but she was too short so they went to get someone taller. A few seconds later a tall teacher pulled the alarm and everyone was evacuated.
I interviewed a group of people including Del Miller and Keith Shader for this information.
