Welcome Letter

Dear Werner Families, 

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new and returning families of Werner Elementary School!  

The PTA is a parent volunteer organization that supports the school by organizing volunteers for various programs and classroom assistance and by providing financial support through fundraising for assembly and enrichment programs, media and classroom supplies, school-wide events, and other items not available through school funds. 

This year our theme is to Join the Flock!  Just as geese fly in a V-formation to make their flight easier, we also want to support and encourage leadership of our parents.  Research studies prove that parent involvement increases a child's' success at school and that students do best when parents and teachers work together as partners. 

A great way to learn more about your school, get connected with parents, and get involved is to join the parent-teacher organization.  Parent groups play an important role in building the kind of supportive school environment where teachers and students alike can do their best work.  The parent group can be a terrific source of information about your school and community, too. 

As the parent/guardian of a Werner student, you can choose to become a member of the PTA.  Registration is $10 and you automatically become part of the Colorado and National PTA and reap their benefits. Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month followed by an interesting and informative Speaker Series. Minutes of the meetings are posted on our bulletin boards and web-site and monthly newsletters are sent home announcing upcoming events, Werner news and PSD information. 

The PTA has planned an exciting year of activities for all families to enjoy. We have published a PTA Opportunities flyer, which provides descriptions of the activities to be held throughout the 2009-2010 school year, as well as a tentative calendar of events.  Both of these items can be found on our web-site and bulletin boards in the school. We encourage you to support the PTA and Werner Elementary by attending meetings and becoming involved. New ideas and suggestions are always welcome! 

Not all of the committees have been chaired at this time. It takes additional volunteers as well as chair people to run successful committees and events. Please have a look at our current committees and see what “fits” for you.  Some require a specific time commitment at the school, but there are many which can be done at home and on a flexible time table. In many cases, helping with a committee and an event only takes an hour or two of your time. 

Please consider volunteering your time and talent to the PTA. If each Werner family volunteered for one event or activity it would spread the work load of this wonderful organization and make it more manageable, enjoyable and successful for everyone. Teach your children by example - be involved! We can’t do it without you!
