Welcome to Werner Elementary! We are eager to meet you and help you begin your volunteer venture to support our students and staff and make this an incredible year. Please read through the opportunities below to learn about Werner events and activities. Which could you chair or co-chair? Which fun team will you join?

Join an On-Going Committee for the School Year:
o Birthday Books – a new program to supplement the library and celebrate our childrens’ birthdays.
o Bulletin Boards – change PTA boards monthly throughout year.
o Clerical Team – assist PTA board and committees throughout year - chair Bridget Froelich.
o Chess Club – assist Chess Club K-5 students to learn the game and supervise club activities - chair Lori Adair.
o Computer Geeks - assist PTA board and committees with computer skills.
o Directory – compiles all Werner families’ names and addresses and classroom lists. Committee is filled for 2009-2010 – chair Katy Tyschen.
o Financial Wizards: assist treasurer in creating spreadsheets and reports for PTA budget.
o Great Books – reading program for grades 1-6 using short stories and group discussion to boost students’ learning.
o Hospitality – coordinate refreshments at Werner events and host a fun and informative coffee talk series - chair Lori Loeb.
o Lego Robotics – support a student team in creating and competing with Lego Robots.
o Literacy / Guided Reading Program – a new program that supports classrooms and enables students to read books on their appropriate level. Volunteers will need to organize and maintain the book room – ordering new sets, using spreadsheets for cataloguing, organizing into boxes, and maintaining the check-out system.
o Odyssey of the Mind – support a team of students to creatively problem solve in competition – chair Carol Wilusz.
o PTA Newsletter: Need Text Editor – published monthly throughout school year - layout editor Kathy Mason.
o Spirit Sales – determine what type of spirit sales to order, create and sell to community.
o Volunteer Program – organize and communicate with all Werner volunteers - chair Elise Branson.
o Wellness – create various activities, events and education for staff, students and families - chair Cathy Lee.
o Werner Community Outreach – organize and publicize various community outreach opportunities, main event early December - chair Renee Cohn-Jones.
o Werner Fundraising Nights at Area Businesses –publicize and coordinate fundraising nights at area restaurants, roller skating and other activities you determine successful - chair Jenny Whetsell.
o Yearbook – determine which company to use, capture pictures throughout year, layout and publish book in April 2010.
