I am currently a 3rd grade teacher at Werner and am now beginning my 12th year in this position. Before that, I was the Art Teacher here at Werner (for 6 years). I am beginning my 18th year as a proud Wildcat Educator! I was born in Julesburg, Colorado and lived there until I was 10 years old. My family then moved to Fort Collins, and I attended 6th grade at Bauder Elementary - then on to Blevins Jr. High, Rocky Mountain High School, and Colorado State University. My very first teaching position was in Loveland, Colorado as the Art Instructor at Van Buren Elementary and Lincoln Elementary. I held that position for 7 years, before arriving at Werner.
I am married to John Dengler, a local architect. We have 5 children. Kellen (27) is a video producer in NYC; Hayley (26) works for a sound production company in Denver; Madison (22) just graduated from CSU with a degree in Cultural Anthropology and is seeking a career position while waiting tables at El Monte Restaurant; Riley (20) is beginning his junior year at CU-Boulder in the Film Studies department; and last, but not least, Mara (13) is an 8th grader at Preston Middle School. I have always loved attending my kids sporting events, and now with only one child left at home, I am enjoying her Arsenal Soccer career. I love to knit, read, snow ski, bike, walk my dog Cowboy, shop and eat out. I also love to scooter around town with my husband on our his/hers electric scooters!
I am looking forward to having a smaller class this year, and really diving into the Treasures Reading curriculum. Reading, Writing and Social Studies are my favorite things to teach. People ask if I ever miss teaching art. I still incorporate many multicultural art activities into the Social Studies curriculum in our study of the seven continents of the world. I feel so fortunate to be a teacher at the best school in the world!
